Benchmark Rexx

Here’s something fun... benchmark your system by running the rexxcps script that comes with every Rexx interpreter

Compare your system’s performance
here.  The chart shows how PCs have improved so that “compiled versus interpreted language performance” is hardly an issue for most applications.

Email your benchmark data to me (including all the data fields in the chart), and I’ll add it to the chart. I’m at
webmasterA at the domain RexxInfo.org.  Thank you!

This site compares programming language performances.   It gives you another benchmark plus code for another dozen benchmark programsDon’t take the site’s rankings for Rexx too seriously.   The site is not scientific and the performance of various Rexx interpreters varies widely.

Book Rexx

This web site is based on the book Rexx Programmers Reference.

The book offers a generic Rexx tutorial plus 13 appendices that give you a complete and detailed language reference.   The book discusses all Rexx platforms, focusing on Windows, Linux, handhelds, and mainframes. It shows how to script interfaces such as GUIs, databases, web servers, XML, and others. It also includes an Object Rexx tutorial.  It contains many scripts you can download and run on your Windows or Linux PC.

It’s 700 pages long and costs less than $30. Your purchase helps pay the hosting costs for this web site.

Buy it at Amazon or Buy it at Barnes & Noble.    Thank you for supporting this site!

Here is Barnes and Noble’s review of the book --

“If you’ve spent time on IBM platforms -- especially mainframe or midrange -- chances are you know Rexx. Over a million developers recognize its productivity, power, and simplicity. Nowadays, it’ll run on everything from Palm and Windows handhelds to Linux and Solaris boxes. Whether you’re refreshing your skills or learning Rexx for the first time, you’ve hit the jackpot with Rexx Programmer’s Reference.

Howard Fosdick covers all the language basics, from syntax to style, but that’s just the beginning. There’s plenty of coverage of modern Rexx: GUIs, web programming, SQL and XML interfaces. There’s a lengthy section on today’s most powerful Rexx tools and implementations, from Regina and Reginald to the newly open-sourced Open Object Rexx. Finally, there are references to everything from NetRexx to mainframe extended functions.

There aren’t a lot of new Rexx books out there. Fortunately, this one’s terrific.”

----- Bill Camarda, from Read Only magazine.

About the Site Rexx

The purposes of this web site are to:

     *  Provide a one-stop reference site for experienced Rexx developers
     *  Provide immediate online access to all resources
     *  Introduce more people to the “joys of Rexx”

I have programmed in dozens of languages and consider Rexx to embody a special beauty. Call this a “Rexx tribute site” if you will. Long may Rexx run!

This site is non-commercial, though I do hope to cover its hosting costs through sales of
my Rexx book.  The only ads on this site are those for the book.

This site attempts to promote all Rexx interpreters, tools, and platforms equally.   If it overlooks or omits your material or product please contact me with relevant information and URL to post and I will add your item.  Your feedback improves this site, so thank you.

The email to send to is
webmasterA at the domain address RexxInfo.org.  I can not answer technical questions in a timely manner so please post them to an appropriate Forum rather than sending them to me.

This site is updated as demand dictates.
